Guelph Lake Conservation Area — 7743 Conservation Rd, Guelph ON

Four half-day clinics that rebuild your L1 foundation — one skill area at a time. Pick any clinic in any order. Take one or take all four.

Most Level 1 courses cover everything in a weekend and move on. These clinics return to each skill area with a 1:6 coaching ratio, video feedback, and time to actually develop what your L1 introduced. Think of it as a review and a push forward of your existing skill set.

Forward Stroke Efficiency
The single biggest improvement most paddlers can make — and the one most courses rush past.
  • Torso rotation and power transfer
  • Catch timing and blade placement
  • Cadence control for conditions
  • Tracking without rudder or skeg
  • Exit timing — the most common efficiency leak
Bracing & Edging
The reflexes that keep you upright when conditions get interesting.
  • Low brace — recovery from instability
  • High brace — support in dynamic conditions
  • Edge control with confidence and intent
  • Linking edged turns into fluid boat handling
  • Commitment progression to build reflex
Control & Maneuvering
Precise boat placement in tight quarters and moving situations.
  • Sweeps — wide turns with power and control
  • Draws — lateral movement on the move
  • Bow and stern rudders at speed
  • Pivot turns in confined spaces
  • Combination sequences for fluid handling
Rescues
Make your rescues reliable under pressure through coached repetition.
  • Wet exit — calm, controlled, every time
  • Self-rescue — paddle float and scramble
  • T-rescue drilled to speed
  • Scoop rescue for incapacitated paddlers
  • Timed progressions under coached pressure

Questions

Do I need my own kayak?
No. Valley sea kayak and Nookie gear rentals are available with every clinic.
Do I have to take the clinics in order?
No. Pick whichever skill you want to work on first. The only soft recommendation is Rescues after the other three, but it's not a requirement.
Are these too basic for post-L2 paddlers?
Fundamentals coached at a high level is different from your L1. Stroke efficiency alone is worth revisiting. That said, the weekend clinics are where you'll find the most challenge.
Can I take multiple clinics on the same day?
Half-day clinics are 4 hours — you could potentially pair a morning and afternoon session if scheduling allows. Contact us to check availability.
What's different from a traditional course?
Traditional courses cover everything in a weekend. These clinics focus on one skill area with video analysis, a 1:6 ratio, and published curriculum. More depth, more reps, more feedback.
