The Boat

The Sirona sits in the most useful part of the size spectrum — short enough to surf, rock hop, and manoeuvre without drama; long enough to hold speed and carry overnight kit. When it launched in 2015 it immediately found an audience: most testers noted it combined the versatility of the Avocet with a more playful personality closer to the Pintail, without sacrificing hull speed.

The composite Sirona is available in three sizes — 15-10, 16-1, and 16-4 — covering paddlers from 40 kg to 135 kg. All three share the same hull character: rockered, edge-responsive, skeg-dependent in wind, and fast for their length. The size differences adjust volume, cockpit dimensions, and depth to match the paddler rather than changing how the boat behaves.

It is not an expedition kayak in the traditional sense. It won't carry a month of supplies and it doesn't track like a freight train. What it does is reward paddlers who want to be active on the water — edging, surfing, exploring — while still being practical for the overnight trips and coastal crossings that make up most people's actual paddling. In fibreglass or Carbon/Kevlar layups, it is also meaningfully lighter than the RM version.

Fit & Sizing

The three sizes cover the full adult range. The 15-10 is built for smaller paddlers at 40–70 kg; the 16-1 is the most common fit at 65–100 kg; the 16-4 is for larger paddlers at 90–135 kg and features a notably larger cockpit opening. All three models share cockpit dimensions with the corresponding Etain sizes, which makes transitioning between the two models straightforward. If you are unsure which size fits you best, we strongly recommend a demo paddle before ordering — contact us to arrange one at our Hamilton location or at an upcoming clinic.
