Coached Pool Time - Hamilton - Winter Season

$129.95 CAD

Stay sharp over winter. Coached Pool Time puts you in warm water with coaches in the pool and 85 minutes of uninterrupted practice — and you set the agenda. Most people come to build or refine their roll, but bracing, rescues, boat control, or just getting comfortable upside down are all fair game. Tell your coach what you want to work on and that's what you'll do.

It's something fun to do on a weeknight other than doom scroll.

What You Can Work On

Your session, your goals. Here's what most paddlers use their pool time for:

Rolling
Build and refine your roll in a controlled environment — warm water, no current, no rush.
  • C-to-C and sweep roll progression
  • Hip snap and setup drills
  • Off-side development
Boat Control
The balance and edge control that makes everything on open water feel more stable and intentional.
  • Edging and leaning
  • Low and high brace
  • Sculling for support
Rescues & Re-entries
Practice the skills you hope you never need — but absolutely will at some point.
  • Wet exit confidence
  • Self-rescue and re-entry
  • Assisted rescue variations

What's Included

With two coaches in the water for a maximum of four paddlers, one coach can spot you hands-on through a roll while the other keeps the rest of the group moving. You're never waiting your turn for feedback.

  • 85-minute coached session
  • Kayak, paddle, and PFD provided
  • Two coaches in the water — maximum four paddlers
  • Occasional guest coaches

What to Bring

  • PFD — we have PFDs available, but if you own one, bring it. A PFD that fits you well is always better than a loaner.
  • Pool attire — swimwear or light athletic clothing. The pool is warm — wetsuits and drysuits are optional.
  • Nose and ear plugs — you will be upside down
  • Warm clothes for after — you'll be wet and it's winter. Bring layers, a toque, and warm footwear for the walk to the car
  • Towel and dry bag — for wet gear on the way home

  • Sessions run on weeknight evenings during the winter season
  • Spaces are limited — most sessions fill quickly once dates are announced
  • Our standard cancellation policy applies

Prerequisite: None. The pool is the most controlled environment we offer — warm water, no wind, no current. Whether you're brand new or building toward your next certification, this is a comfortable place to start or sharpen your skills.

Keep building → Pool time pairs well with our certification courses. Refine your roll over winter, then bring that confidence to your Level 2 in the spring.

Questions

Do I need my own kayak or gear?
No. Kayak, paddle, and PFD are all provided. If you own a PFD, bring it — your own fit beats a loaner — but nothing is required.
What if I can't roll yet?
That's exactly what most people use pool time for. If you're working on your first roll, you'll get focused, hands-on instruction through the progression. If you already have a roll, you can work on refinement, off-side development, or anything else on your list.
Do I have to work on rolling?
No. You set the agenda. Rolling is the most popular use of pool time, but bracing, rescues, boat control, or simply building comfort in the boat are all options. Tell your coach what you want and that's the plan for your session.
Do I need a wetsuit or drysuit?
No. The pool is warm. Most people wear swimwear or light athletic clothing. Wetsuits and drysuits are optional if you prefer them.
Can I book both sessions in one evening?
Yes, if space is available. Each session is booked and priced separately.
I'm a complete beginner. Is this for me?
Yes — and because you set the agenda, your session can be entirely about getting comfortable: wet exits, stability, basic strokes, no pressure to roll. A warm pool with no wind, no current, and a coach beside you is the gentlest possible introduction. If you want to build toward certification afterward, a Level 1 course is the structured next step.
Where exactly is the pool?
In Hamilton. The exact facility and address are included in your booking confirmation email.
How do I know when sessions are scheduled?
Dates are announced at the start of the winter season. Spaces are limited and fill quickly — sign up for our mailing list to get notified first.
