Kayak Rental

$79.00 CAD

Don't own a sea kayak? Don't let that stop you. Rent a Valley sea kayak for any Kayak Ontario course, clinic, or tour. We bring the boat to you, fit it to your body, and take it home at the end — you just show up and paddle.

Every rental is a proper sea kayak with two bulkheads, not a recreational boat you'll outgrow by lunch. The same kayaks our instructors paddle and the same boats we use to train other instructors across the province.

What's Included

Everything you need to paddle — nothing you need to figure out.

  • Valley sea kayak — two bulkheads, deck lines, proper outfitting. A real touring kayak, not a rec boat.
  • Paddle — sized to your height and paddling style
  • Spray skirt — fitted to the cockpit
  • Delivery and pickup — we bring the kayak to your course location and take it home afterward
  • On-site fitting — your instructor adjusts foot pegs, backrest, and thigh braces so the boat fits your body before you get on the water

How It Works

No roof rack required. No loading at 5 AM. No figuring out which end goes where.

Book with your course
Add the rental when you register for any Kayak Ontario course, clinic, or tour. It's tied to your program dates automatically.
Tell us about you
We'll ask for your height, weight, and experience level so we can match you to the right boat from our fleet. If you've paddled before and have a preference, let us know.
Show up and paddle
Your kayak is waiting at the launch site, ready to go. Your instructor fits the boat to your body before the session starts.
We handle the rest
Multi-day course? We store and transport the boat between days. At the end of your program, we take it home. You drive away clean and dry.

The Fleet

All rentals are Valley sea kayaks — a British manufacturer known for quality composite and polyethylene touring boats. We maintain a range of sizes to fit paddlers from small to large frames.

Proper Touring Kayaks
Every rental is a sea kayak with two bulkheads, a day hatch, deck lines, and a skeg or rudder. These are the same boats we use to train instructors — they'll support your learning at every level, from L1 to L3.
  • Two sealed bulkheads for safety and storage
  • Day hatch for accessible gear
  • Full deck lines for rescue and self-rescue
  • Skeg or rudder for tracking in wind and waves
  • Adjustable foot pegs, backrest, and thigh braces
Fitted to Your Body
A kayak that doesn't fit you is a kayak you'll fight all day. We match you to the right hull based on your size, and your instructor fine-tunes the outfitting on site so your contact points are correct from the first stroke.
  • Matched to your height and weight
  • Foot pegs adjusted for leg length and knee contact
  • Backrest and thigh braces set for comfort and control
  • Spray skirt fitted to the cockpit and your torso

Also Available

Pair your kayak rental with gear you might need for your course.

  • PFD — personal flotation device loaners available if you don't own one
  • Nookie drysuit rental — required for cold-water courses (Level 2, Skill Building Series weekend clinics). Available as a separate add-on.
  • Safety gear — pump, whistle, and 15-metre floating rope available for purchase if you don't already own them
  • Camping gear — some rental tents and sleeping bags available for multi-day courses

Good to Know

  • Rentals are only available alongside a Kayak Ontario course, clinic, or tour — we don't offer standalone rentals
  • The rental covers all days of your program — no per-day calculations to figure out
  • Multi-day courses: we transport and store the kayak between days so you don't need a roof rack or trailer
  • If you own your own sea kayak (two bulkheads required), you're welcome to bring it to any course instead

Planning to buy your own kayak? Our instructors are happy to talk through what to look for based on your size, paddling goals, and budget. Take the course on a rental, figure out what you like, and buy with confidence — not guesswork.

Booking note: Rentals must be booked with a Kayak Ontario program. Add the rental to your cart alongside your course, clinic, or tour registration. Questions about sizing or availability? Email us — we're happy to help.

Questions

Do I need a roof rack to get the kayak to the course?
No. We deliver the kayak to your course location and take it home at the end. You don't need a roof rack, trailer, or any way to transport it — just show up.
What's included with the rental?
Kayak, paddle, and spray skirt — everything you need to get on the water. Your instructor fits the boat to your body on site. Delivery and pickup are included. PFD loaners are available separately if you don't own one.
What kind of kayak will I get?
A Valley sea kayak with two bulkheads — a proper touring kayak, not a recreational boat. We maintain a range of sizes and will match you to the right hull based on your height and weight. These are the same boats our instructors paddle.
Can I rent a kayak without taking a course?
No — rentals are only available alongside a Kayak Ontario course, clinic, or tour. We don't offer standalone daily or weekly rentals.
What if I'm between sizes?
Tell us your height and weight when you book and we'll match you to the best fit. If you've paddled before and know what you like, let us know that too. Your instructor fine-tunes the outfitting on site regardless.
I'm thinking about buying my own kayak. Should I rent first?
Yes — strongly recommended. Take your course on a rental, get a feel for what works for your body and paddling style, and then buy with confidence. Our instructors are happy to talk through options based on your experience after the course.
What about multi-day courses?
The rental covers all days of your program. We transport and store the kayak between days — you don't need to worry about overnight logistics. For courses with camping, the kayak stays at the course site.
Do I need a drysuit too?
Depends on the course. Drysuits are required for cold-water courses like Level 2 and the Skill Building Series weekend clinics. Nookie drysuit rentals are available as a separate add-on. For Level 1 and half-day clinics in warmer months, a drysuit is usually not required — your instructor will advise on what to wear.
Can I bring my own kayak instead?
Absolutely. If you own a sea kayak with two bulkheads, you're welcome to bring it to any course. Let us know when you register so we can plan accordingly.
What if something breaks or gets damaged?
Normal wear from course use is expected and covered — these are working boats, not showroom pieces. If you have concerns about anything during the course, let your instructor know and we'll sort it out.
