Kayak Tripping Level 1 - Learn to Kayak Trip

$99.00 CAD

The online theory component of the ORCKA Kayak Tripping Level 1 certification. Trip planning, route design, risk assessment, weather interpretation, campsite logistics, and the fundamentals of multi-day coastal travel — completed at your own pace before you head out on the water.

This module covers the knowledge side. To earn your full KT1 certification, you'll also need to complete an instructional expedition separately — any of our eligible expeditions will qualify as the field component.

How Certification Works

The ORCKA Kayak Tripping Level 1 certification has two components, completed separately:

  • This online theory module (KT1)
  • An eligible instructional expedition as the field component

Complete both to earn your full certification. You can take them in either order. The module stands on its own as learning — no expedition required if you just want the knowledge.

Questions

Do I need to do the expedition at the same time?
No. The online module and the expedition are separate. Complete them in either order, at your own pace. Both are required for full KT1 certification.
Which expedition should I choose?
Any of the listed expeditions qualify. Opeongo is the most beginner-friendly (base camp, smaller water). The others are progressively more demanding. Choose based on your experience level and what environment excites you.
Can I just do the module without an expedition?
Yes. The module stands on its own as learning. You won't earn the KT1 certification without the field component, but the knowledge is yours to keep.
Is there a deadline to complete the module?
No. Work through it at your own pace. Access doesn't expire.
What's the difference between KT1 and KT2?
KT1 covers the fundamentals of multi-day trip planning and participation. KT2 covers expedition leadership and guiding — advanced decision-making, group management, and taking responsibility for others on the water. Each requires its own dedicated expedition.
