A Coastal Explorer Day is a coached journey along a real stretch of coastline, with small-group coaching in Class 2 conditions woven into the paddle. The coastline follows the season: the Niagara Peninsula in spring and fall, Georgian Bay in summer. Each runs a different day, so pick your coastline below.

What You'll Work On
This is coaching on the move. The coastline is the classroom: every headland, crossing, and landing is a live lesson, coached to the group and the conditions.
Coastal Navigation & Decision-Making
Forecast interpretation and site selection, route choice around wind, swell and landings, crossing strategy and timing, and real-time plan changes.
Boat Handling in Conditions
Bracing and edge control in swell, manoeuvring in wind and waves, rock gardening, and launching and landing in surf.
Risk Management & Group Awareness
Dynamic risk assessment, cold-water risk in the shoulder season, group spacing and communication, rescue considerations, and towing setup.

Questions
Why is the Niagara day shorter and cheaper?
Cold water and cold mornings. We launch later, paddle 11 AM to 3 PM to catch the warmest part of the day, and skip the provided lunch. You get the same coaching in a tighter window.
Do we stay in one spot or cover distance?
We cover distance. The skills work happens where the terrain calls for it: bracing in the swell that's actually running, navigating the headland that's actually in front of you.
How big are the conditions?
We aim for Class 2: open-lake swell, wind, current, and features like cliffs and rock gardens. If conditions exceed what's right for the group, we adjust the plan, and you'll see how that call gets made.
Do I need my own kayak or drysuit?
No. After registration you'll receive a gear and rental pack. A drysuit is required on Niagara dates, so rent one if you don't have your own.
I've only done my Level 1. Am I ready?
If you're confident with wet exits and re-entries and comfortable in moderate wind and waves, you're likely ready. These days bridge Level 1 and Level 2. Unsure? Email us.
Do I get a certification?
No. Level 2 is a multi-day certification course with formal assessment. A Coastal Explorer Day is a single coached day that builds the skills and judgment that make your next certification course more successful.
We acknowledge that our Niagara Peninsula paddles take place on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, including the Six Nations of the Grand River, as well as the Attiwonderonk (Neutral) and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This land is covered by Treaty 381, the Between the Lakes Purchase (1784), and Treaty 3 ¾ (1792).
Our Georgian Bay paddles on the Saugeen Peninsula, including Lion's Head, Cabot Head, Dyer's Bay, and Tobermory, take place within the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which includes the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation at Neyaashiinigmiing.
We recognize their enduring relationships with these lands and waters, and we are grateful to paddle in places cared for since time immemorial.
