Killarney Coastal Islands

$1,101.00 USD
Kayak Ontario

Manoomin Mnising — Philip Edward Island — sits in the heart of Georgian Bay, just south of Killarney Provincial Park. White quartzite mountains, crystal-clear water, remote backcountry campsites, and some of the clearest skies in Ontario. The Fox Islands offer a navigation environment that rewards every skill you've developed and builds new ones every day.

This is a backcountry expedition — five days of paddling, navigation, and camping through one of the most ecologically significant stretches of freshwater coastline in the world. Your group travels as an expedition pod: navigating, cooking, and making decisions together. Everyone has an active role.

Questions

Do I need my own kayak or gear?
No. Kayak and dry suit are provided. Common group camping gear is included. You'll need your own personal layers and sleeping kit — some camping gear rentals may be available on request.
How does food work?
Meals for Days 1–4 are planned and prepared together as a group — expedition cooking is part of the experience. Day 1 breakfast and Day 5 dinner are on you.
How do I get to Chikanishing Trail?
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the put-in. Chikanishing Trail is accessed via Highway 637 near Killarney. Carpooling among participants is common — we'll help coordinate if useful.
What if the weather is bad?
Georgian Bay sets the agenda. We build flexibility into the route and campsite plan for weather holds. Learning to make those decisions is part of the expedition.
Is this a guided tour?
No. It's an instructional expedition. You'll have qualified Paddle Canada coaches throughout, and the five days are structured around building real expedition competence — navigation, backcountry decision-making, group management, and coastal travel. Everyone in the group has an active role in making the expedition work.
I've only done my Level 1. Am I ready?
Level 1 meets the minimum prerequisite. That said, the Fox Islands are an exposed coastal environment — bigger conditions than most Level 1 paddlers have experienced. If your Level 1 was recent and in varied conditions, you're likely ready. If it's been a while or you only paddled in calm water, consider our Level 2 course at Killarney first. Not sure? Email us.
Can I earn a certification on this expedition?
Yes — this expedition can count as the field component for the ORCKA Kayak Tripping certification program. Pair it with the KT1 or KT2 online theory module to earn your certification. Each level requires its own dedicated expedition. If you just want the on-water experience without the theory, the expedition stands on its own — no module required. See the certification options below.

Certification Pathway

This expedition can count toward an ORCKA Kayak Tripping and Guiding certification if paired with an online theory module. Optional — the expedition stands on its own without it.
